I can’t believe it’s time to make a book. I don’t know how to make a book, but other people do. I ripped apart some old books that other people made and figured it out. There aren’t really any secrets, (at least I wouldn’t know if there were anyway). It’s just a bunch of pages attached to other pages with a bigger thicker page on the outside to protect all the other pages. LET’S DO IT!!!

Paper is essential if I’m going to make a book. 250 gsm recycled cotton paper in tan, natural, and cream will have to work. I fucking love paper.

To sew, I needed thread, a needle, and some beeswax to keep the thread from breaking. (I used beeswax-based chapstick because I don’t have straight beeswax.) Fortunately for me, everything I needed was in the picture I took.

I sewed the signatures together. Fuck if I know how to do a kettle-stitch. Just tie it together, if it stays, it’s good. I smashed it between my homemade press of vice-grips and scrapwood to get it ready for gluing. Then I totally glued it. I mean, glue was on that spine.

Cover board is essential. Let’s go out and buy new cover board guys. Or let’s use an old Psychology textbook I found dumpster diving one fine afternoon. As I tore it apart, I found some bubbly-text girl notes from 1988. Let’s see what was happening in 1988 you guys:

Red Pen Girl-”Maurice said that he will send for us around the first or the 28th. He told me if he had it like he would like we will be up there every weekend! Guess who likes you?”

Blue Pen Girl-”Who???”

RPG-”Billy who else. He thinks you don’t like him all that much. He was over to Maurice’s house last night!”

BPG-”Why??”

RPG-”He ask you to call and you didn’t! Call collect if you have to.”

BPG-”He told me he was going to call me last night and he didn’t so I didn’t know what to think.”

RPG-”He went out. To Jazzaco.”

BPG-”last night”

RPG-”Yes, Maurice didn’t go.”

BPG-”Billy is the type of guy who doesn’t really show his feelings and it is like I don’t want him thinking I’m sweatin’ him. I shouldn’t have to call him always he can call me. I think we just have mixed up signals.”

RPG-”True about the feeling part. BUT BILLY AND MAURICE TALK LIKE YOU and he said Billy was talk a lot about you!”

BPG-”SHOCK ME!!!”

Get that mull on there! I didn’t have real mull-material so I lightly sanded some hundred thread count fabric and glued it right on those signatures.

GLUE THAT MULL ON THAT COVER BOARD! Look at us go.

It’s starting to look like a real book you guys.

I decided to cover my book with more of that awesome hundred thread count fabric. Glued that back board right in the center.

Well look at that, just look at that glue. Look at that cover.

Tuck those edges.

I pressed it like I meant it for a few years, told the glue to settle down, now, said, c’mon, stay still.

Then I totally took it out, lined the cover boards with some paper and what do you know?

Sweet licks. Well we did it. How fun was that to make something from nothing. Just how fun.

I’ve got big plans for this little book. Sawl I’m sayin’.
